Background: Antihypertensive pharmacological therapy includes diuretics, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, calcium channel blockers and angiotensin II receptor blockers. Besides their use in arterial hypertension, these drugs also play a major role in the therapy of portal hypertension, heart failure and coronary artery disease. Systematic analyses on the possible influence of these medications on cancer incidence are lacking.
