The future of petroleum-based fuel is biodiesel. Biodiesel is an eco-friendly fuel that can be used in any diesel engine without any alterations. Researchers have focused on biodiesel that can be produced from microbial lipids extracted from high lipid-yielding microbes. In this study, microbial cultures were screened for high lipid-yielding capabilities and mutated using UV radiation at three different time intervals of 30, 75, and 90 min. The Nile red fluorescence method was used to analyze high lipid-yielding microbes. An outstanding increase in biomass and lipid productivity was noted when the microbes were exposed to UV for 30 min.
