International audienceApproximately 70% of the world's total land surface is under human management (Luyssaert et al., 2014), which is altering Earth's landscape. Human-water interactions (Oki, 1999), in particular, combined with increasing population growth (Vörösmarty et al., 2000), are expected to further exacerbate hydrologic extremes such as floods and droughts (Milly et al., 2002).
