Deaths began to rise following a sharp increase in the prescribing of opioid for pain treatment. This local crisis leads us to explore trends in opioid abuse and dependence at a global level. We sought to identify countries at high-risk of opioid use disorders, using a large pharmacovigilance database. Methods: Five worldwidely used opioids were included: oxycodone, fentanyl, morphine, tramadol and codeine.
