Introduction. Tobacco is the leading cause of preventable death among people with psychiatric disorders. However, this issue is often neglected. In France, public outpatient care is centered around the centre médico-psychologique (CMP). Tobacco cessation programs delivered by CMP nurses could be part of the solution because of their role as first-line caregivers for psychiatric outpatients. The objective of this study was to explore the views of CMP nurses about tobacco use among individuals with psychiatric disorders in order to identify barriers in the way of appropriate care and where improvements can be made.
