Do regional French accents affect the pronunciation of English? The case of South-eastern French

This study will focus on the pronunciation of English as a foreign language by native South-eastern French speakers localised in the Bouches-du-Rhône. We will compare speakers with a South-Eastern accent with speakers with a standard French accent when they read English. To do so, we will start our study digging in the roots of this regional accent: Provençal. We will then narrow our analysis focusing on the phonemic productions of the written forms 2 and in English, French, Provençal, and South-eastern French, focusing our attention on nasal vowels and on the voiced velar nasal [ŋ]. The last section of the first part will deal with the pedagogical approach of English sounds for French learners. The second part will be dedicated to the presentation of our experiment, with details on the method and the building of the corpus. Finally, in the last part, we will analyse and discuss the results of the experiment to answer our hypotheses
