The Trial of Intensive Blood Pressure Control in Older Patients with Hypertension (STEP trial) is a very recent major trial which sought to determine whether lower systolic blood pressure (SBP) targets are beneficial for older adults with arterial hypertension. The Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (SPRINT) was another ‘big impact’ trial that sought evidence regarding benefits and risks of strict blood pressure (BP) targets on cardiovascular outcomes.
