Recent physical results related to some binary and ternary rare earth intermetallic compounds are presented. The investigation has been addressed to different objectives: the study of the magnetothermodynamic properties of some binary and ternary Gd compounds is devoted to a possible technological use in the magnetic refrigeration and as a components of heat pumps; the study of the magnetism in new ternary rare earth intermetallic compounds contributes to the understanding of the mechanisms responsible of the 4f-4f and 4f-3d interactions.
