The effects of spontaneous emission noise on system performance are reduced when using dispersion management. The effects are even stronger if a `sliding' dispersion management is used in which the local average group velocity dispersion (GVD) decreases with a 1/z law. This method has two advantages since it tolerates a higher pulse energy, making a comparison with a classical dispersion management, the local average GVD is higher and the input link and lower at the link output and these characteristics permit a reduction of the time jitter and to operate with a higher pulse energy.
