COMMENT: Kuznetsov, 1965, in Bobrinskii et al., 1965, Key to the Mammals of the U.S. S.R., Moscow, included Mesocricetus in this genus, but Corbet, 1978:90, 92, considered Mesocricetus a distinct genus; he stated that these taxa are in need of revision.
