Premature degradation of concrete structures is one of the most important causes contributing to the wastage of non-renewable resources in the construction industry and in most cases it is due to corrosion of steel reinforcement. The aim of this research is to identify new inhibiting formulations, useful to hinder the corrosion of steel reinforcement, in the concomitant presence of chlorides and carbonation and to investigate their mechanism of inhibition.
