The god Dionysus, master of theatre and spectacle, kicks off a party. He brings together music, wine, satyrs and maenads (women who follow Dionysus). One satyr gives us a satyr dance – a staple of the satyr plays that accompanied Greek tragedies. Dionysus knows this is a performance, but do the others know? The animation was created from a vase made in Athens in the 5th century BCE (now in the National Museum in Warsaw, in Poland, number EXC43).This animation was created as part of the European Research Council (ERC) funded project: Our Mythical Childhood...
