The growth pattern of infants from birth to three years of age was studied in a large Italian sample. Age and sex mean values and percentiles for weight and length are presented and compared to the UK reference population. The growth profile obtained is quite different from the adopted UK standards. Possible factors related to different graowth patterns are discussed. A frequent monitoring of European populations is needed to supply reliable data of growth pattern to specialist in this field
