Rohilkhand University, Bareilly-243 006, Uttar Pradesh, India E-mail : drnimjpru@rediffmail.com, niveditacdri2000@yahoo.com Manuscript received online 12 December 2014, accepted 04 March 2015 A simple, clean and convenient one-pot method has been developed for the synthesis of 4-substituted-3,4- dihydropyrimidinone by multicomponent condensation of ethyl acetoacetate, aromatic aldehydes and urea in basic medium in the presence of ethanol under refluxing conditions. The yield of all products is ≥ 90%. The synthesized compounds have been characterized on the basis of their spectroscopic data
