Different types of magnetites, both synthetic and from boiler tubes, were investigated by Mossbauer spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, and determinations of dissolution rates in 5% HCl at 75 °C. The dissolution rates of the magnetites were higher the greater their deviation from stoichiometry
