This paper deals with the problem of the melting of a semi-infinite solid body subjected to an extremely high heat fluxat the free surface. In this circustance the parabolic heat conduction equation for the two phases should be substituted by the hyperbolic wave equation of hheat transfer. The non linear problem of determining the temperature distribution and the melting front characteristics has been numerically solved by an excellent accuracy collocation method
