In this technical note some experimental results obtained using a suitably hybridized single stage Gifford McMahon cryocooler are presented. Regenerator efficiency values are given for different matrix configurations. By a particular 'microsphere bed' configuration we attain a minimum working temperature of 35 K and a net refrigeration power greater than 6 W at liquid nitrogen temperature. © 1987
