The beam-slab interaction in steel-concrete composite beams subjected to longitudinal forces, applied to the concrete slab or to the steel beam, is analysed. Closed form expressions of the longitudinal shear force distribution at the beam-slab interface are obtained by adopting a composite beam model with linearly elastic flexible shear connection. A parametric analysis shows that the peak characterising the interface shear force distribution is nearly constant by varying the position of the loaded section along the beam axis and that it doubles when the force is applied to the beam end. Furthermore, the peak value strongly increases with the shear connection stiffness. Finally, rules for practical applications, involving all the main param...
