This paper presents a finite element model for the nonlinear analysis of beams prestressed by external slipping cables. The formulation involves composite beams with deformable shear connection; the simpler kinematical model of reinforced concrete beams can be analyzed as a special case. Cables can have general paths and can slip with no friction at the deviators. General nonlinear constitutive laws can be used for the materials, i.e., concrete, reinforcements, beam steel, shear connectors, and tendons.
