The concrete confinement has been studied by the authors on analytical basis. Their theory concerns stress distribution along longitudinal and transversal reinforcement and within the confined core. It respects both the forces equilibrium and the strain compatibility between hoops and concrete core. An analytical model is obtained based on the following parameters: concrete strength, longitudinal reinforcement diameter and distribution, transverse reinforcement diameter, spacing and shape, constitutive law of transverse steel. A parametric analysis, based on geometry and material properties, has been performed in order to choose the most appropriate materials and reinforcement arrangement for confinement and ductile behaviour of sections.
