This study deals with the optimal sizing of an off-grid hybrid systems with multi generation set architectures that could be used to satisfy the energy load requirements of a typical rural community. In order to assess the techno-economic feasibility and to obtain the optimal sizing of components, the economic performances of each hybrid system are compared to those achievable with a traditional stand-alone diesel supply system and with the alternative possibility of a grid extension. The designed hybrid system could include renewable sources as a photovoltaic plant, a wind turbine, as well as an energy storage system and a diesel generator.
