Background: the concentration of purine and pyrimidine metabolites in urine is useful marker of defects in their biosynthetic pathways or in the urea-cycle. Matherials and Methods: urine were collected from 58 healthy subjects aged from <2years to 42 years. The separation was performed with HPLC method. The same urine sample were examined using 1H-NMR. Results: HPLC and 1H-NMR method allowed the identification of 13 purine and pyrimidine compounds (orotic acid, creatinine, uracil, uric acid, hypoxantine, xanthine, uridine, thymine, inosine, guanosine, deoxyinosine, deoxyguanosine, deoxyadenosine).
