The numerous similarities in geographical, historical and environmental contexts in which the coastal defence systems of Corsica and Sardinia were designed, suggest an interesting comparison. This juxtaposition, also corroborated by the fascinating possibility of an exchange of construction knowledge between the two islands, is the basis of this study. Given the many similarities highlighted in these buildings, it was decided to apply the same multidisciplinary research protocol to both. The multidisciplinary viewpoint, which takes advantage of the synergic contribution of specialised analyses, constitutes a valuable basis on which to understand the buildings’ complexity.
