Despite Internet widespread diffusion, rapid developments in Distributed Geographic Information Technology and favorable institutional frameworks, it is still difficult to find effective online GIS applications capable to support spatial decision making. A survey on the Italian diffusion of Web-GI applications in planning within public administration at the three institutional level is proposed in this paper. Within first results on the distribution and typology of selected applications, some tentative conclusions are drawn on key issues for further research developments
