Geo-lithological map of seafloor between Capo Boi and Torre de su Fenugu – SE Sardinia (1:7.000 scale map)

The sedimentological map of the seafloor between the area of Capo Boi and Torre de su Fenugu in SE Sardinia is presented, compiled through the “Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra dell’Università di Cagliari”, “Comune di Sinnai” and “Corpo Forestale e di Vigilanza Ambientale” convention; and conducted within the framework of the following research projects: “Gruppo Nazionale Difesa Catastrofi Idrogeologiche (G.N.D.C.I. – C.N.R.): “Prevenzione e previsione degli eventi franosi a grande rischio – Interlinea difesa dei litorali – Unità operativa Sardegna”; M.P.I. 60%: “Ricostruzioni paleoclimatiche e paleogeografiche pleistocenico-oloceniche dai sedimenti dei bacini Sardo-corsi”, funded by Cagliari University. The reserch, based on echographic and sedimentological surveys, allowed the realization of a seafloor map. The echographic and sedimentological data were collected during a survey conducted in the Bay of Cagliari in 2001 for studying the sea floor and coasts of the Golfo degli Angeli. A total of 18 nautical miles of sea floor profiles were collected using the Multibeam Echosounder and 12.5 nautical miles with the Side Scan Sonar. The geo-lithological map was made using 1:10,000 scale digital map produced supplied by the “Carta Tecnica Regionale dell’Assessorato degli Enti Locali, Finanze, Urbanistica – Servizio Informatico e Cartografico”, sections 567060 Solanas and 567050 Torre delle Stelle. The Multibeam and Side Scan Sonar data, combined with sedimentological data, were processed to produce a detailed 1:7,000 scale geo-lithological seafloor map. The rocky outcroppings and sediments on the seafloor are described and mapped. These consist of granite rocks and dykes, beach rock, gravel, very coarse, coarse, medium, fine and very fine sands and also the main sedimentological Facies. The lower and upper limits of the Posidonia oceanica (L.) Delile meadows which play a decisive role in the production, selection and transport of bioclastic sediments. The routes map, bathymetry and interpretation of the Side Scan Sonar photomosaic have been introduced separately into the final map to facilitate interpretation of map themes for this marine area
