The article analyzes “Il pellegrino inglese” (1552), a political dialogue written by William Thomas in Italian and then probably translated by himself into English. In this dialogue Thomas, the “pigrim” of the title, is present as a character and pronounces a detailed apology of Henry VIII’s political decisions, and of the English Reformation. The dialogue is set in Bologna, during a dinner party at the Italian gentleman’s house of whom the pilgrim is a special guest
