Saprinus (Saprinus) maculatus (P. Rossi) Literature data. “ Sardinia ” (Bargagli 1871; Bertolini 1904; Porta 1926). Notes. Apart from the above citations, which probably arise from confusion with Saprinus cruciatus cruciatus (see discussion in Penati & Vienna 2006c), the presence of this species in Sardinia is documented neither in the literature (Tab. 1) nor in the examined collections. From Luigioni (1929) onwards it has always been excluded from the Sardinian fauna (cf.
