The appearance of Roman tribes in the inscriptions of Asia Minor from the Late Republican period onward is linked both to the presence of Roman citizens (magistrates, members of the senatorial and equestrian orders, negotiatores) and to the diffusion of the Roman civitas amongst the Greeks. Moreover, starting from about the middle of the 1st century B.C., the citizens of new Roman colonies were usually assigned to one of the official tribus. In this contribution I intend to present a brief overview of the situation in the Roman colonies of Asia Minor, based on the epigraphic evidence.
