Ibn Battuta was one of the most famous traveler of the Middle Ages and his work Rihla is widely appreciated and studied in the world. He traveled for over 25 years from Morocco to South-East Asia. In this article I focus on his route in China, during Yuan Dynasty. I try to deepen the historical inconsistencies and geographical dissonances in order to outline the guidelines of the debate between Chinese and Western scholars. I first analyze the three Chinese translations: those of Zhang Xinglang, Ma Jinpeng and Li Guangbin, then compare these works with Western scholar reviews and translations.
