The chromogranin A-derived peptide catestatin (CST) exerts sympathoexcitatory and hypertensive effects when microinjected into the rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM: excitatory output); it exhibits sympathoinhibitory and antihypertensive effects when microinjected into the caudal ventrolateral medulla (CVLM: inhibitory output) of vagotomized normotensive rats.
