Following traumatic brain injury (TBI), cerebral metabolic dysfunction, characterized by an elevated cerebral microdialysis (CMD) lactate/pyruvate (LP) ratio, is associated with poor outcome. However, the exact pathophysiological mechanisms underlying this association are not entirely established.
