Background: The metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a constellation of risk factors of metabolic origin that promote the development of cardiovascular disease. More recently, an association with chronic kidney disease (CKD) is being reported. However, most of these studies are non-indigenous. The aim of the study was to determine the association between components of MetS and CKD in a Nigerian population.Methods: Patients with MetS were recruited from a tertiary hospital in Benin City, Nigeria.
