Nonlinear total reflection at a lyotropic crystal-glass interface

The existence of an optical nonlinearity of the Kerr-like type in a lyotropic liquid crystal is found in a total internal reflection experiment at a liquid crystal/glass interface. It is shown that the nonlinearity is most probably of thermal origin
