Informal entrepreneurship plays an important role in Morocco, as it allows for broad-based economic growth and a dynamic process of poverty reduction. Nevertheless, informal production units (IPU) are essentially small-scale enterprises, generally survival activities with low productivity and little technological means. They have limited access to financial resources and basic infrastructure but allow the population excluded from the formal labor market to survive in a socio-economic context marked by a lack of safety nets such as unemployment or health insurance. The fragility and low productivity of these IPUs have therefore drawn the attention of international researchers and policy makers to the factors that hinder their formalization. ...
