As of 2013, the volcano\u27s last confirmed eruption was in 1979. Beaches in Northern Saint Vincent often have black sand while in the southern region the sand is either yellow or white. La Soufrière is also the highest point on the island at 4,048 feet (1,234 meters) above sea level.
