AN EVALUATION OF THE MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS IN THE PROMOTION OF GIRL CHILD EDUCATION

The study provides an overview of Millennium Development Goals that relates to the promotion of girl-child education of Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna state. It provides a theoretical framework on girl child education within the context of Millennium Development Goals. The study is enriched with the administration of a total of 200 questionnaires and an in-depth interview session. The data collected are analyzed using simple descriptive statistical tools like frequency and percentage distribution. It enumerates the objectives, strategies, activities, achievements, and good practices of promotion of girl child education for development in the selected local government area. Specifically, the study focuses mainly on evaluation aspect of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the Promotion of Girl-Child Education. It further identifies the challenges and constraints of girl child against full participation in educational provision at various levels for gender equity and development in the area. Far reaching recommendations on measures to overcome the identified daunting challenges and constraints towards the attainment of MDGs goals relating to the promotion of girl child education in Nigeria in general and in particular in Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State are also made. The study opines that promotion of girl-child education is a viable strategy and of value towards the attainment of MDGs goals and development of women in Nigeria in general and the Kaduna North local government area of Kaduna state in particular.
