Purpose - The purpose of this study is to evaluate different strands of institutional theory within the internationalization process of multinational enterprises (IVINT%) in developed and emerging economies. In the light of this purpose, the authors try to fill the gap in the literature through analysing the main institutional theories: neo-institutionalism, new institutional economics, comparative capitalism and the institution-based view.
