Background: The sublingual microcirculation presumably exhibits disease-specific changes in function and morphology. Algorithm-based quantification of functional microcirculatory hemodynamic variables in handheld vital microscopy (HVM) has recently allowed identification of hemodynamic alterations in the microcirculation associated with COVID-19.
