Objective: To analyze the performance of the left-handed operator in a dental unit designed for a right-handed person. Method: Descriptive observational study. Results and conclusion: 15 left-handed students who reported having difficulty in their work in the dental units, the majority reported that the adaptation problems occurred in the first weeks of their practice in the clinic, highlighting the difficulty in adjusting to their activity in the dental unit designed for right-handed people. It should be taken into account that regardless of the hand with which the practice is carried out, performance improves.
