Some filtration problems, where- variable- slurry concentration is encountered have been considered. Volume of filtrate under constant pressure filtration and required pressure for constant rate filtration are predicted against time using a complete mixing of a slurry pumped., into a tank containing particulate-free liquid. Methods for analysing data taken under variable concentration have been discussed. Optimizing filtration times on the basis of solids recovered has been suggested for variable concentration filtration. It has been shown that the usual thumb, rule criterion that filtration time should be equal to downtime for highest overall rates is no longer true.
