BEHAVIOR OF ELECTRICAL RESISTIVITY AGAINST SHEAR STRENGTH AND INDEX PROPERTIES FOR COMPACTED LATERITE SOIL

Laterite soil is commonly considered as a good natural foundation and building material. This type of soil is found in abundance in most of the tropical countries including Malaysia. In any project, the properties oflaterite soil are determined through borehole sampling as this technique delivers reliable properties of subsurface soil. However, the drawback of this technique is that it is time-consuming, expensive and cumbersome. Therefore, in order to save cost, time and energy, electrical resistivity method is an alternative technique, which could provide a quick and rapid assessment of tlie, snhsnrfar.r, rsoil without r,nnning any rlkturh^nne to the siihsnrfaoe soil. The principal objective of this study is to evaluate the relationship of strength and some index properties of laterite soil with electrical resistivity. The research study is based on laboratory investigations only. Overall, 40 soil samples were acquired from selected field locations in Perak state and subjected to laboratory testing.
