Structural Geology Of Semanggol Formation Emphasis on Gunung Semanggol, Perak Area

The Semanggol formation was believe to be separated in three different part of tectonic which starts from Gunung Semangol, north Perak until Padang Terap, North Kedah due to the formation of the strike slip Bok Bak fault and was believe interpreted to be a deep marine enviroment before. This was proved by the study of radiolarians on the Semanggol formation . The Semanggol formation was believe to be once a continuous basin which was later truncated by wrench faulting while in Muda Dam area which is in northeast Kedah, the formation was overlain conformably by the Saiong Beds but elsewhere, the contact with adjacent lithostratigraphic of the Semanggol formation are either faulted or unexposed. The Semanggol formation was reported to be deform by repeated and rather tight folding but different situation was observed in Bukit Kukus where the strike-slip faulting was observed to slice up the chert outcrop together with the thrust faulting which can be observed in Bukit Barak and Bukit Kukus also. The data obtain from the field shows that many fractures, folds and reverse faults can be observed in the Gunung Semanggol area. The directions of stress are according to the formation of the Bok Bak Fault stress which is East West
