Syringomycin, a phytotoxic and antifungal lipodepsipeptide produced by most strains of Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae, was isolated from etiolated bean cotyledons artificially inoculated with the millet strain B359 of the pathogen and identified by FAB-MS. The results provide the first evidence of the presence of this phytotoxin in the diseased tissue. These finding supports its role in pathogenesis
