The objective of this project is to develop a fault detection system in an oil or gas pipeline. The detection system must be able to move along the pipeline, deposit at various locations to sense the presence of pipe thinning due to corrosion, and communicate that information to an outside receiver for processing. At the present time, the existing technology uses a non-destructive inspection of pipelines for fluid transport based principally on the Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) technique and the oil pipeline needs to be shut down in order to let the device investigate the pipe.
