The annual global food wastage of 1.3 billion tons valued at US$ 2.6 trillion impedes food security and precipitates climate change. There is a need to increase food production to feed the estimated 9.1 billion people by 2050. Grain losses in sub-Saharan Africa are about 50% with an estimated value of US$ 4 billion. Reducing food wastage is one approach to increase food availability. The inadequacy of information on postharvest losses makes Zambia suitable for such a study.
