After stroke, patients frequently have postural disorders including weight bearing asymmetry on lower limbs and body sway, but also balance disorders. The first objective of the thesis was to assess effects of physical therapy on postural and balance disorders after stroke by meta-analyses. If some categories of physical therapy could be effective, the effects are limited owing to the weak methodological quality of studies and the heterogeneity of participants and interventions. The nature of effects likely to be implemented by physical therapy (recovery or compensation) remains unclear.
