Impact of cholinesterase-inhibitor insecticides on non-target wildlife : a review of studies relative to terrestrial vertebrates. — Since organochlorines have been considered too harmful for environment and wildlife and their use restricted, organophosphorus and carbamates are widely used. The latter are cholinesterase-inhibitor insecticides and acaricides. They are used against pests but can affect non-target species either through oral, dermal or respiratory route. Numerous studies show that a sublethal exposure to organophosphorus and carbamate insecticides may depress the brain and/ or blood cholinesterase activity, and may alter the physiology and behaviour of the species.
