Acknowledging the performative dimension of the essay "Poesia e modernidade: da morte da arte à constelação. O poema pós-utópico" (Poetry and modernity: from the death of art to constellation. The post-utopian poem, 1984), by Haroldo de Campos (1929-2003), as a manifesto that not only reviews the past, but above all exposes the project of a new post-utopian poetry, this article intends, firstly, to discuss the notions of utopia and post-utopia in de Campos’s reflection, explaining them mainly in light of the idea of modernity by the Mexican poet Octavio Paz (1914-1998).
