Poor environmental quality and lack of sustainable transport systems are common problems to be solved in urban areas. For Rome, the situation called for a revision of the current transportation policy, based on the increase of sustainable modes of transport and on the improvement of awareness among the citizens, by the implementation of measures, as tools to achieve a more livable urban environment; they focus on rationalization of central areas access, improvement of electric public transport fleet and of the related information system, upgrading of green corridors, air quality control and transport demand monitoring to check variations due to the measures implementations.
