Etablering av Ulven nærmiljøhage: utfordringer og muligheter for drift

While urbanisation is accelerating, cities are facing huge environmental, social and economic challenges. Urban agriculture can contribute to more sustainable cities through better environment and climate, building social capital and better public health. Exploring urban agriculture in Norway, this thesis maps possibilities and challenges for the management of a community garden in Oslo called ‘Ulvenhagen’. Through action-based research this thesis offers a peek into the gardens political, financial and organisational context and its effect on the gardens management. This thesis reveals the need for a greater leading role from the government in order to mobilize social capital and enable active citizenship in urban agriculture. The thesis contributes to a wider knowledge base about how urban agriculture can be managed through co-creation and a common infrastructure between the public, private and civil sector. By that means, this research offers input to how the city of Oslo can secure enough space for urban agriculture and facilitate the use of urban agriculture as a natural part of sustainable urban development
